Therapeutic recreation is essential to maximizing
the benefits of medical and rehabilitative services,
as well as enhancing the quality of life for long
term residents.
These programs are designed to meet the various
needs of residents based upon their abilities,
interests and cognitive/medical condition.
Activities include: workshops, discussion groups,
parties, movies, arts & crafts, games, music,
barbeques, live entertainment and trips into the
community. All activities are structured
under the supervision of a Certified Director
of Therapeutic Recreation who is assisted by a
dedicated staff of professionals.

Residents and patients are provided the option
of having meals in one of two distinct dining
rooms, based upon their needs and preferences.
The formal, all inclusive meal program is complemented
by snacks that are available multiple times per
day. All dietary services and programs are under
the direct supervision of a Registered Dietician
who is part of Ludlowe Care Center’s professional
team.

Social services provide counseling and emotional
support for residents and their families. They
are an important source of information regarding
facility services and community resources. They
also function as the Discharge Planning service
of Ludlowe Care Center for short term rehabilitation
patients to ensure that all necessary assistance
is available and coordinated once an individual
leaves the facility.
All activities within this department are overseen
by a Certified Social Worker who also has access
to professional Psychotherapy services, as needed.

The goal of Ludlowe Care Center’s Rehabilitation
department is to promote the highest level of
independent functioning for all residents and
patients. For long term residents, this objective
is complemented by additional therapies to prevent
avoidable decline in function and independence.
Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy services
are available 7 days per week, as needed and prescribed
by an individual’s attending physician.
All therapy services are individually designed
based upon the needs and capabilities of the resident/patient
and are directed by experienced and licensed therapists.

Ludlowe Care Center is committed to providing emotional
and spiritual support for all of its residents.
Therefore, in-house religious services for all
denominational needs are an integral part of the
facility’s program offerings. Residents
and their families are encouraged to discuss their
religious and spiritual needs with staff as part
of the initial admission process.
In addition to monthly resident council meetings which provide
an open forum for discussion of facility issues
and residential community needs, Ludlowe Care Center
encourages residents to actively participate in
planning activities to help shape the content
of various facility offerings. For example, residents
can participate in:
- Food Committee
Discussion and planning of menus, special dietary
needs, menu preferences and frequency of menu
modifications are structured in collaboration
with the Food Services Director.
- Round Robin
Group discussions, facilitated by the Director
of Social Services, are held to address topics
of resident interest, plan for special events
and review issues of particular concern within
the resident community.
- Recreational Planning
Development of leisure time activity schedules
and event participation are coordinated by the
Director of Therapeutic Recreation in conjunction
with interested residents. New program initiatives
are introduced and evaluated against the preferences
of the resident community.
